How to Tell if You Need to Throw Away Your Shoes (including barefoot or minimalist shoes)
Here's something I teach my physical therapy patients all the time, but that we all need to know!
We all need to check our shoes periodically, but if you have knee, hip, ankle or foot pain, or known asymmetries in your legs, you DEFINITELY need to cross-check your shoes with these techniques.
This video is *not* a comprehensive look at how to analyze your shoe wear, but it covers some important, non-obvious, things to search for.
Lots of credit to the Institute of Physical Art for teaching me these techniques.

    This was so hard! Ugh but feels good. I HATED this and needed it at the same time. Somehow it did not frustrate me enough to kick rocks at my tv. (Although the round and flatten reach thing that starts at 27-28mins in was not close to ANY movements my body has produced before and felt borderline impossible. Would note for other be very careful that you dont hurt yourself. I had to quit with the bend and flatten and just do the reach after just a few go arounds that told me absolutly DO not keep going). Maybe i will be in shape enough to finish the class in one sitting someday. As for right now I am currently 30 minutes in and if I finish it today it will be the first time i finished but 4th time trying to.

    Hi, I am easily able to do this yoga position (Thanks to we Indian using Indian toilets :D ) but I am unable to get up without holding any object these days. I sometimes take help of my bed or floor.. Is this normal or someone should have flexibility to go into this position and stand up straight.

    • @Ariele.Foster
      @Ariele.Foster 5 месяцев назад

      You have the flexibility to get into the position (gravity helps on the way down) but you don’t have the strength to get up. Work on squats and strengthening to progressively lower surfaces and that should get you where you want to go

    Poorly trained yoga teacher are a concern, yin ashamed restrictive tissues and I am so grateful plus the time resting in the Palouse is both meditative and deeply resting, props are essential, as should use a scale of sensation of 1-10 and reside in the middle

    • @Ariele.Foster
      @Ariele.Foster 5 месяцев назад

      Props were not used by the originators of yin yoga, interestingly, though I understand they are widely used now due to Sarah Powers and Bernie Clark’s influence. Unfortunately the claims about what yin yoga does to connective tissue and joints are not backed by science. I would point out that it can destabilize joints. There is no such thing as an objective 1-10. It’s all up the practitioner and sensation in the moment does not equate to sensation later in the day

So I've started a weight training program (mornings 5x a week) and I'm wondering if doing one of your classes in the evenings would be too much, or if they would be a good complement. Thoughts? Thank you!!

    • @Ariele.Foster
      @Ariele.Foster 5 месяцев назад

      Hello! Thank you for taking my classes :). Although I can't answer specifically for you, When people ramp up exercise or movement in general, keep a few things in mind: 1. try to do no more than 10% more each week so that your body has time to adapt to the new level of strenuousness (if anything you are doing is pushing yourself), 2. give yourself needed rest breaks of at least 24 hours when you push hard (for example, if you hit arms during weight training on Monday, you give your arms a rest on Tuesday and focus on legs), 3. Make sure you are getting enough of the *appropriate* calories. For me, if I move more, especially when I do resistance training, I make sure I get enough protein that day by drinking a protein shake. That seems to help with fatigue. Finally, I would say, keep it sustainable. 5 days a week strength training is already incredibly impressive! If you add my classes in the evenings, it could be awesome cross training, just don't burn yourself out and get defeated. Thanks for being here!
